The monster of the Mingechevir reservoir.
They call it Mingesaur.
The territory of present-day Mongolia and the Gobi desert considered
as one of the densely populated by prehistoric animals areas in the
whole world. Exactly here in 30-40s of past century was discovered
the greatest number of remains of various pangolins, dinosaurs and
other specimens of ancient flora, existed 65-70 million years ago.
Later the paleontologist discovered the identical remains in other
places of world: in Central and South America, on Black Sea coast,
in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. And in Georgia were found the remains
of dinosaurs.
Each of these finds was the great interest for scientists.
The scientists succeeded to find the causes of appearance of these
giants millions years B.C., but their sudden vanish from the face
of the earth still remain the undiscovered mystery…
And now the sensation! The Group of the scientists among which
was the research officer of Institute of Archeology and Ethnography
Hasanaga Ramazanli came back from expedition on 7-th March current
year. The information about discovery of large number of remains
of animals, which populated the territory of Azerbaijan 230-245
million years ago, including the fragmentary remains of dinosaur
extinct 70-80 million years ago gave the cause for sudden trip.
Of course we were intrigued of this sensation and met with H. Ramazanli
with the aim to get to know more about the "incident".
Frankly speaking until now we - the scientists - didn't suspect
that on our territory formerly lived the dinosaurs. On the basis
of the paleontologist dig which were made in the middle of past
century, we could suppose that perhaps the dinosaurs live on the
territory, where lived the other prehistoric animals (their remains
were found by scientists). But it was only the supposition.
On the 3rd March this year the resident of Mingechevir
city Haji Lutfeli Babayev informed us about his find, 12 kilometers
from the city. We went promptly to make sure of this find.
It is astonishing, that it wasn't made any find like this epoch-making
discovery during the construction of Mingechevir hydroelectric
power station, which is situated between mountain ridges of Big
and Small Caucasus. This discovery was like a bolt from the blue.
- How it can be so, that the cemetery of prehistoric animals
was found many years after the exploitation of Mingechevir reservoir?
Last years the level of water in Mingechevir reservoir harshly
reduced up to 15 meters and uncover the eroded stratum, and
that played the important role in the discovery of this peculiar,
I can say important for the whole world find.
- How many burial places you found there?
With the help and participation of Hadji Lyutfeli Babayev we
researched three huge burial places of dinosaurs. With pride
I can say that this discovery in Azerbaijan have worldwide score.
We named these dinosaurs mingesaurs, like the name of place
where the remains were found.
- I hope you will begin soon the further work?
We informed the Information Center of Administration of the
President, the Milli Mejlis about the discovery. We also gave
the talk on the Azerbaijan TV and radio. The pride and responsibility
overfill all scientists of Azerbaijan. The director of Institute
of Archeology and Ethnography Arif Abbasov has promised that
the team of leading archaeologists, paleontologists, geologist
and geographers will be organized within the 10-15 days and
they will go on the place of the archeological dig. From my
part I promise to inform the reader of "Mirror" about the course
of scientific researches, which are to be made in this direction.
Perhaps the new discoveries could disclose the mystery of the
habitability of these animals on the territory of our country,
and it could make an important contribution to science.
