8 may, 1992 - Occupation Shusha by Armenian armed forces

...In May 1992, Armenian and Karabakhi forces seized Susha (the historical, Azerbaijani-populated capital of the region) and Lachin (thereby linking NK to Armenia)... From Fact Sheet "HISTORY OF THE NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT". Issued by State Department, March 30, 2001

Shusha had been built by Karabakh khan Pariah Ali Djavanshir on the place of the ancient settlement. Mir Movsurn Navvab, Sadihdjan, Khurshudbanu Natavan, Nadjafbey Vasirov and Natavan were born in Shusha. Many books can be written about the beauty of the nature of Shusha and the part that this town played as the famous musical conservatory. Shusha is a city-museum, a city-reserve.
The city of Shusha and whole Shusha district (rayon) were occupied by armed formations of the Republic of Armenia on 8th of May, 1992. As it can be seen from the results of censuses in the former USSR 91.7% of population of Shusha district and 98% of the city Shusha were Azerbaijani, besides of this 25 of 30 settlements of Shusha district was with evident prevalence of Azerbaijani population.
As result of aggression there were destroyed 24 villages and settlements, 32 schools, 26 health care centers, 55 cultural establishments, sanatoriums, 8 museums and etc.
